This August, Queen’s Hall will once again echo with the sounds of youthful talent and creative energy as Birdsong Academy hosts the Closing Concert of the 2025 Vacation Music Camp, themed “The Future in the Present.”
The concert is the grand finale of an intensive multi-week program that brings together young people aged 12–18 from across Trinidad and Tobago for focused training in steelpan, wind, brass, strings, percussion, and voice. Guided by an exceptional team of tutors and mentors, campers refine their skills, explore new repertoire, and gain the confidence to perform on one of the nation’s most respected stages.
Since its inception in 2004, Birdsong Academy has addressed the lack of access to quality music education by offering free tuition, instruments, and performance opportunities to more than 1,600 young people. Many alumni have gone on to become professional musicians, educators, and cultural leaders — proof of the transformative power of music in shaping lives and communities.
This year’s theme draws inspiration from the work of renowned Trinidadian historian and writer C.L.R. James, whose belief in the capacity of ordinary people — especially youth — to shape the future resonates deeply with the Academy’s mission. The 2025 concert will celebrate this vision with a programme that blends classical and contemporary works, jazz, calypso, and original student compositions.
