birdsong Academy will host a registration and orientation exercise for new students entering the Academy’s After School Music Programme and Saturday Programme this Saturday, September 17, 2016. The exercise will be held at the Department of Creative and Festival Arts of the University of the West Indies on University Circular Road (the compound next to the construction site) from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
All new students at registration and orientation must be accompanied by a parent.
New students include:
- Beginners with little or no music training between the ages of 9-14 years. These students will be assigned to the After School Music Programme; and
- Students with previous knowledge of music and/or exposure to birdsong Academy’s vacation programme. These students will be assigned to the Saturday Programme. Acceptance into the Saturday programme is by invitation only.
Now in its 13th year, birdsong Academy trains youth in a structured music education programme focused on music literacy, playing and performance techniques. All birdsong Academy students are instructed in music theory, playing and performance techniques of the steelpan plus a second orchestra instrument. Students write the Associated Boards of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) theory and practical examinations and are exposed to opportunities to perform and develop excellence in musicianship.
New students who have written music exams should bring a copy of their certificates to registration/orientation.
