In light of the current circumstances and government restrictions placed on gatherings and other forms of interactions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, birdsong Academy will be taking the institution forward via online platform. This means that we will be conducting all our sessions, both practical and theory virtually.

We understand that this initiative will not be favourable to some, however, this is a step forward that must be taken in order to continue on the journey of providing student with the opportunity of a musical education and maintaining our existing foundation of musical excellence.

By moving online, we hope in engaging our students in what has become the new norm of blended learning both on and off screen. The music theory classes will be schedule for grades 1 to 5 at a specified time on Saturdays, while the instrument classes will be held during the week. However, due to the limited resources of instruments the practical classes will be restricted by the availability of instruments. Pan classes will be limited to students who have access to their own steelpan and do not have a secondary instrument (woodwind, brass, guitar, vocals etc). A timetable will be provided before the official commencement of classes.

Registration & Orientation

2020 registration will be online. A link to the registration process is provided below as well as on our social media platforms. The online registration form will also be used to update our existing online database, so all persons will be required, new and existing, to complete the form as well. Registration will begin from the 23rd of September and end on the 10th of October 2020.

Requirements for All Students

Parents/Students are responsible to ensure that they have:

• A functioning laptop, desktop or other device with operating web camera and microphone

• Access to Internet

• Printer/Scanner (Optional)

• It will preferred if all students have access to a “gmail” account.

Teaching and Learning

All classes will be conducted online via Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. If needs be, assisting guidelines will be provided to students on the various platforms used by the tutors. Students will be provided with online material by their respective tutors as well as a schedule for the various classes. Teaching is expected to begin Saturday 3rd October 2020.

Use of Academy Instruments

It is preferred that students have their own instruments or invest in one. However, birdsong will be making instruments available to students. There will be no cost attached, however, before one borrows any instrument, parents must first sign a contract binding them to the FULL payment of any repairs or replacement if that said instrument is damaged. There will be no exception to this condition.

This arrangement does not apply to any steelpans. We will not be lending steelpans!
