Yesterday, birdsong finished in 4th position in the non-school category in the Junior Panorama. We are disappointed with the result which is considerably below our expectation of ourselves. For a long time to come, we will continue to dissect, analyse, deconstruct, re-examine all our efforts which produced such an unwanted outcome.

But even as we hold on to the pain of defeat as an important catalyst of future victories, it would be remiss of us to allow it to obscure some rather important takeaways:

• The discipline and capacity for hard work of a much-maligned generation
  
• The creative potential of our young arrangers, Nicholas Jones and Aviel Scanterbury 
  
• The passion of our parents  
• The administrative talent and leadership skills unleashed in our Manager, Ms Neisha Smith
